The observatory will be part of a new building at the existing home. The design plans for the building are complete and approved by the local building department. Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2016.
The observatory will consist of a 12.5' Ash dome, new ASA DDM-160 mount and a PlaneWave CDK20 telescope with Fused Silica mirror, along with existing TMB 7" refractor and 6" Lunt Solar telescopes. The ASA DDM 160 mount was selected for its ability to carry up to 300 kg (661 lb.).
The pier design allows all telescopes to rotate without a meridian flip. Observations Solutions provided ASA with the model shown to the right calculating the pier geometry. The telescopes will be mounted on a custom PlaneWave tandem bar.
The observatory building design is by Arch11, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado. The observatory is projected to be operational in December 2017.
